Spinning yarn from recycled fibers
Cotton fibers, made with finely processed cotton fabric scraps and lint, are spun into yarn. As opposed to normal virgin cotton (harvested cotton is imported in units called “bales”) reused cotton fibers have a short fiber length, so it is rare for it to be used by itself to produce yarn. So, naturally, we blend recycled fibers with virgin cotton to give it strength to make it into a stonger thread. Until now, what has been called “recycled cotton” was cotton fibers made from the waste from the combing process of the spinning stage, but because this process occurs at the spinning plant, it is now known as “reused cotton.”
